Finally it may be sinking in that " War is Hell", and that the Iraq war is not going well on the ground–represented by civil strife and lack of progress in overcoming sectarian violence, and US casualties.
While we cannot back down from the terrorists or our commitments in Iraq, the Bush Administration decision process may become better focused now, more clear, as to what we can hope to accomplish, and what our limitations are in Iraq.
We have to maintain a presence in the area as a deterrent threat to Iran. That is a good reason to keep our forces in Iraq for the foreseeable future–even though this is financially and socially costly, we must never forget that we are at war with Islamic radicalism, and that a significant part of the support for that war and threat to America emanates from Iran.
