Clarification of letter published on North Las Vegas City action to construct Carl’s Jr in Aliante

The Las Vegas Sun published my letter on Sunday Feb 8, 2015 headlined “Actions Undermine Public Trust”. The thrust of my letter was critical of Mayor Lee and the Council for alleged deceptive procedures related to the granting of a waiver to build a Carl’s Jr restaurant near the entrance to Nature Discovery Park just south of the intersection of the 215 Beltway and Aliante Parkway in North Las Vegas.

My letter mistakenly took issue with the City Council’s communication procedures at one of the meetings and the resulting waiver granted for construction of the fast food restaurant—causing traffic, safety, parking, eye sore and negative effects on already sagging NLV property values . However, it was not the Mayor or Council who ended up granting approval for the construction but rather the unanimous vote of the Planning Commission for which no petition for an appeal by the residents was ever requested.

Accordingly, to the extent my letter was misleading, I would like to apologize to the Mayor and Council, and anyone else who read the letter.
