Regarding New Poll–Younger Generation Leaning Left–Letter to NY Times

At 66  I am more than prepared to leave this nation to the younger  generation–in your referenced poll that means to the age group 17-29.

To me, there was nothing in this poll that was surprising, except for the very interested tone that this age group demonstrated in their responses to the questions. They seemed to reflect pretty much the population at large as a matter of fact, which is a slightly left leaning bias—one that is withdrawing from the GOP, and increasingly favoring Democrats.  There was not quite the dissatisfaction expressed with the current two party system that I expected–and a drift toward an independent party which is separate from the GOP and the Democrats.

The more optimistic outlook for the outcome in Iraq was refreshing, and mirrors my own sentiments as well.
The indication that this sampled generation is for a more open immigration policy is one issue that they will have to resolve.  The millions of illegal immigrants that have been allowed to enter this country is a very significant matter that this younger generation will have to find the resources and the laws with which to deal.
