Dedication

This book is dedicated to the memory of Ken E Brunot A powerful force in organizational leadership  who in the late 1960s led the most successful and ambitious  inner space program of the century in the deep sea drilling project at Scripps institution of oceanography. The deep-sea drilling project was  a highly visible technological program involving the Glomar Challenger  a drill ship that core sampled in record oceanic water depths up to 20,000 feet . Brunot’s capacity to integrate highly diverse disciplines involving petroleum industry engineers with academic community scientists was essential tothe success of this legacy project which demonstrated the existence of continental drift,  rewriting of geological textbooks throughout the world.
